IPv6 Test

IPv6 is the modern internet protocol that replaces the ageing IPv4. This test tells you in seconds whether your device has IPv6, whether it actually works end-to-end (dual-stack), and shows your IPv6 address and network details.

Click test to check if your connection supports IPv6 and whether it works (dual-stack).

Hoe Test Ik of Ik IPv6 Heb?

(Hoe test ik of ik IPv6 heb?) Click Test IPv6 above. The test contacts an IPv4-only service and an IPv6-only service. If both answer, your connection is dual-stack and IPv6 is fully working. If only IPv4 answers, you have no working IPv6 on this network. If only IPv6 answers, the network is IPv6-only.

Having IPv6 is increasingly important. As the IPv4 address space has run out, more providers route traffic over IPv6 โ€” larger websites, CDNs and home networks all rely on it. If IPv6 is disabled or broken on your router, some modern sites can load more slowly or preview worse. Testing is the first step before you change anything.

How the Test Works

The test makes two independent requests: one over IPv4 to api.ipify.org and one over IPv6 to api6.ipify.org. Each service only answers if your connection supports that protocol version. From the combination of answers we can classify your connection as dual-stack (both), IPv4-only, IPv6-only, or IPv6-unsupported. It also resolves the equivalent AAAA (IPv6 address) records so you can see how a domain maps to IPv6.

IPv6 Test โ€” Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 is the 32-bit addressing scheme (for example 192.0.2.1) that the internet was built on, and it only has room for about 4.3 billion addresses. IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses (for example 2001:db8::1), providing an essentially unlimited supply. IPv6 also has built-in security and more efficient routing. Both protocols can run side by side on the same network.

Why does this test say I have no IPv6?

If the IPv6-only service cannot be reached, your router, modem or internet provider may not have IPv6 enabled. Many modern routers disable IPv6 by default or only enable it when the provider issues an IPv6 prefix. IPv4 will continue to work, but you may want to check your router's WAN and LAN settings to enable IPv6.

Does a VPN affect my IPv6 test?

Yes. Many VPNs tunnel only IPv4 traffic, so while the VPN is active your IPv6 test may show a different result than without it. If your VPN does not support IPv6 but your network does, IPv6 traffic and DNS can bypass the VPN โ€” run the related VPN Check and DNS leak test to see if that is leaking.

Could I use the IPv6 calculator tools?

Absolutely โ€” the IPv6 expander, IPv6 compressor and IPv6 subnet calculator help you format, shorten and compute ranges for any IPv6 address, which is handy once you know your own.
